The purpose of this website: helping you learn to play the piano. Building a strong foundation of piano-playing skills will lead to a lifetime of piano-playing joy.
In this day and age, you can learn piano online using the amazing amount of resources provided by the internet. The problem is that a beginner can easily be overwhelmed by the numerous different approaches and vast amount of information available. Finding a simple and basic path to start your piano-playing career can be a real challenge. Here at True Piano Lessons.com, I would like to help make that path more clear to you.
[Before laying out a plan for the start of your piano journey, I just want to encourage you to keep your eye out for a good piano teacher in your area. There is no substitute for having the ears, eyes, and mind of an experienced pianist guiding you along the way. If you can find a good teacher, and can afford their rate, I highly recommend giving it a try.]
So, at this website, you will find a plan that will help you learn piano online starting with some basic technique (how to sit, hand position, etc...), keyboard awareness and understanding, and 17 "tunes" to get you started. By learning several of these familiar tunes on the piano, you will begin the process of developing your keyboard knowledge and awareness, as well as a familiarity with piano fingerings and with your fingers. Also, you will be enhancing your sense of rhythm and your musical ear.
Along with the "tunes", to learn piano online you should begin working through the series of 8 basic piano exercises designed to get the beginner playing and moving on the keys. Along with these exercises, you can learn how to play arpeggios and cadence chords and the Twinkle Twinkle exercise (leading to Burlesque). The ultimate destination of all of these exercises will be the ability to play Scales, Arpeggios, Cadence, and Burlesque in all of the major keys.
Also, you will find ideas for a path towards learning to read music. This will include learning the notes on the piano and the notes on the music staff. A good piano method book series is described and recommended for developing your music reading skills.
Finally, to help you learn piano online, you will benefit from some examples of how to learn and memorize piano music.
This path to playing the piano is described in detail and outlined in my ebook "Piano Player... You" (see links below). So as you play piano online, if you really want to see the "big picture" of your piano journey, you may want to consider getting the book.
